Chinese Society for Measurement

Chinese Society for Measurement (CSM)The Chinese Society for Measurement (CSM) was established on February 28, 1961. It is a national, academic, and non-profit social organization registered with the Ministry of Civil Affairs. The administrative supervisory department is the State Administration for Market Regulation (hereinafter referred to as the National Market Supervision Administration). The Society accepts the business guidance of the National Market Supervision Administration and the China Association for Science and Technology (hereinafter referred to as CAST), and is a member organization of CAST. It represents China in the International Measurement Confederation (IMEKO) and serves as a member of the IMEKO Council. Among the 25 technical committees of IMEKO, 29 Chinese experts have joined and hold key positions.

Currently, the eighth board of directors consists of 150 members, including 49 standing directors (one chairman and twelve vice chairmen). The board has an executive office and 43 branches (five working committees, 29 technical committees, eight sub-branches, and one office).

The Society has nearly 500 corporate members, mainly composed of national research institutes, metrology and testing institutions, universities, and enterprises. The total number of individual members is approximately 8,500, with over 90% holding senior or higher technical titles. Among them, there are 36 academicians, and it has gathered a large number of experts and scholars with high scientific and technological levels in the field of metrology and testing in China.

Main Functions of the Society:

1. To organize domestic and international academic exchanges, key academic topic discussions, and scientific and technological visits related to metrology and testing, and to promote the development of metrology and testing technologies.

2. To conduct strategic research on metrology and testing development and provide rational suggestions for policy-making by relevant government departments.

3. To organize cooperation and exchanges with international metrology and testing organizations, and to represent China in the International Measurement Confederation (IMEKO) on behalf of the metrology administrative authorities.

4. To undertake commissions for the evaluation of scientific and technological achievements, project arguments, and talent assessments in the field of metrology and testing.

5. To recommend, recognize, and reward outstanding scientific and technological workers in the field of metrology and testing; to recommend candidates for academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering, national outstanding scientific and technological workers, and other talents in accordance with national regulations; to conduct professional technical training, seminars, and advanced studies in metrology and testing.

6. To organize the selection and recognition activities of the "Chinese Society for Measurement Science and Technology Progress Award," approved by the Ministry of Science and Technology and the National Awards Office, and to actively recommend excellent scientific and technological achievements to relevant national and social departments and units.

7. To promote advanced metrology and testing technologies, methods, and instruments to research and production units; to organize exhibitions and displays of metrology and testing scientific and technological achievements and instruments (equipment).

8. To edit and publish the journal "Metrology."

9. To conduct popular science activities in metrology and testing, edit and publish popular science books and audiovisual materials on metrology; to carry out activities for the construction of popular science education bases in metrology and testing; to recommend national popular science education bases to CAST.

10. To conduct certification of measurement management systems and promote the improvement of measurement management systems in enterprises.

11. To undertake professional technical work such as the review of metrology technical regulations, management of standard materials, vocational qualification skill appraisal, registered metrologist, and metrology standard assessment on behalf of the administrative authorities.

12. To undertake other tasks assigned by higher authorities
