Inaugural Conference of the International Society of Sensing Technology was Opened in Chengdu
The International Society of Sensing Technology (ISST) was initiated by the China Instrument and Control Society, together with social organizations, universities, enterprises, and research institutes in the field of sensing both at home and abroad. ISST is an international, non-profit social organization and the first international scientific and technological organization established in western China. Its inaugural conference was held on the morning of May 23 at the Chengdu Century City International Convention Center, attracting nearly 500 experts and scholars from over 10 countries and regions.

Luo Hui,ExecutiveSecretary of the China Association for Science and Technology, and Dong Weimin, Executive Vice Governor of Sichuan, attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches. Jiang Zhuangde, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, the first president of ISST and a professor at Xi'an Jiaotong University, delivered a welcome address on behalf of the society.

Inher speech, Luo Hui noted that the establishment of ISST marks a significant milestone in promoting international cooperation in sensing technology, and expressed hope that the society would leverage its role as a bridge and bond to advance global innovation and industrial application of sensing technology. Dong Weimin stated that Sichuan Province would seize the opportunity of the society's establishment in Chengdu to accelerate the development of a sensing technology industrial cluster and build an internationally influential hub for scientific and technological innovation. Jiang Zhuangde emphasized that intelligent sensing technology underpins artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, smart healthcare, and intelligent manufacturing. The society is committed to building a global cooperation network for sensing technology and promoting deep integration of industry, academia, and research.

During the inaugural conference, the unveiling ceremony of the society was held. The first president Jiang Zhuangde, vice president Elfed Lewis, Chengdu Vice Mayor Xu Xingguo, and Zhao Wenqiao, Director of the Chengdu Hi-Tech Zone Administrative Committee, jointly unveiled the plaque. In the subsequent certificate presentation session, certificates were awarded to council members and the first batch of 36 founding members.

Anil Roy, President of the IEEE Sensors Council (2026-2027), delivered a congratulatory message on behalf of international academic organizations. Andy Augousti, President of the Institute of Measurement and Control (InstMC); Zheng Hao, Chairman of Shenyang Instrument Science Research Institute Co., Ltd.; and Cheng Yuhua, Vice President of the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China and Fellow of the China Instrument and Control Society, delivered speeches as representatives of founding members.Representatives from the International Society of Mechanical System Dynamics, the Asia Simulation Federation (ASIASIM), the International Deep Space Exploration Society, and the Myanmar Chinese Chamber of Commerce (Upper Myanmar) attended the event or sent congratulatory letters to celebrate the establishment of ISST.

During the signing ceremony, ISST signed strategic cooperation framework agreements with the Chengdu Open Cooperation Promotion Center and the Sichuan Industrial Technology Research Institute. The three parties will carry out in-depth cooperation in international scientific and technological cooperation, technology transfer, and industrialization.

Going forward, the society will focus on advanced sensing technology, multi-modal sensing and information fusion, edge intelligence and embedded sensing, and other fields. It will research the development trends of international intelligent sensing technology and define the direction of sensing science and technology pathways; host high-level international academic activities and build extensive cooperation and exchange platforms to gather the wisdom of scientists worldwide; promote the transfer of sensing technology achievements to serve economic and social development; organize specialized training and exhibitions to foster global sensing technology talent; and publish international academic journals and conduct international major projects and outstanding scientist awards to inspire global scientific discovery and technological innovation.
